Chiefly comprise typewritten manuscripts of his books, most with holograph revisions, some accompanied by multiple drafts, galley and page proofs, and illustrations. Correspondence includes exchanges with the University of Michigan Library concerning the donation of his papers, and with staff members of the Hopwood Room regarding his activities and publications. Ana folder contains photocopies of printed material: interviews, reviews, and an article by Courlander about his lawsuit against Alex Haley. Author of Roots (Garden City, N.Y.: Doubleday, 1976.).

Enrico Arno was born in 1913 in Mannheim, Germany, raised in Berlin and attended Vereinigte Staatsschulen fur freie und angewandte Kunst. His studies in painting, lettering and calligraphy were thwarted by the Nuremberg Laws of Nazi Germany, when he was deemed 'a mongrel in the first degree' due to his maternal Jewish lineage.
